Harris County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,092,459,〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/48/48201.html )〕 making it the most populous county in Texas and the third-most populous county in the United States. Its county seat is Houston, the largest city in Texas and fourth-largest city in the United States. The county was founded in 1836 and organized in 1837. It is named for John Richardson Harris, an early settler of the area. Harris County is included in the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land Metropolitan Statistical Area. == History ==
The county was founded on December 22, 1836, as Harrisburg County. The name was changed to Harris County in December 1839.〔 The county was the site of two home invasions and mass shootings. The first occurred on July 9, 2014, and left six members of a family dead and a seventh wounded. A suspect, who was once related to the family by marriage, was arrested and charged. The second occurred on August 8, 2015, in which a family of eight was tied up and fatally shot, reportedly by an ex-boyfriend of the mother. The suspect was arrested after a shootout and standoff and later charged.
